#iOS app syncs PNG as JPEG

I suddenly noticed that every PNG image synced from iOS is saved as JPEG. The extensions are PNG but the contents are JPEG. Why does this happen? I tried to search through all settings and found nothing, and have definitely not set up any conversions myself. I've already deleted some images from the device thinking they're properly synced to Immich but apparently they're now JPEGs instead of originals.

I know iCloud Photos also prefers to give me JPEGs unless I ask for "unmodified originals" but of course that should have nothing to do with Immich syncing the original unmodified files.

iOS app 2.4.1.build.239, server 2.4.1 so latest ones available

Just synced yet another file and...

$ file library/admin/2026/IMG_1177.png

How are you downloading these @visual galleon ?

#

Ah you're looking at the file 🙃 woops

#

Immich' core principle is "don't touch the original" so this is really what is uploaded through the app

visual galleon
#

Yeah, it must be an issue with the app in my eyes also

visual galleon

Never knew that’s an option so no idea. They’re still PNGs on the device

I have a number of jpg files but these were all shared with me, not originated from my device
