I want to setup immich on my truenas server for my family but I want each person to have access to their own folders/files. So far in truenas everyone has a setup like this in their folder
/mnt/MainPool/[User]/Immich/
├── uploads
├── thumbs
├── profiles
├── videos
└── backups

To do that you will need to have multiple Immich installations and docker containers running. But it’s not optimal

You don't need people to have access to all the folders, only library (with storage template enabled)

#

They shouldn't change anything in those folders btw, that will break Immich

It might work to set up the users so their folders are created at UPLOAD_LOCATION (don't upload any files), then set up volume mounts for those folders to specific user folders on the nas.
Things like encoded videos, thumbs, etc will be shared, but each user's main library should be separate that way via the mounts.
Like bo0tzz said though, those files should not be changed outside of immich, and new files should only be added through immich.

alright cool that makes things so much simpler

#

time to learn how to use immich go with truenas

Alternatively, you could do symlinks for your users that point to the appropriate immich folders. Arguably safer since it's not messing around with the Immich setup.

Symlinks don't work great with container mounts
