I don't use the Fediverse much anymore, due to all the admin slapfights. But I'd still like to see the posts. If you use https://fed.brid.gy/ it'll automatically copy your posts over to BlueSky.

I dont think i will at the moment: I'm actually extremely suspicious of bluesky.
For a technical explaination of the problems of bsky read this: https://anderegg.ca/2024/11/15/maybe-bluesky-has-won

November has sucked so far. One upside of the terrible nonsense is that more people are fleeing X. Many are choosing Bluesky. I’ve seen a bunch of takes about this recently, but I keep seeing things I disagree with. I figure that’s a good enough excuse to write more about this weird-assed social network.

I should make a post/video about my thoughts on masto/bsky, but the bullet points are:

  • bluesky stopped being a "public benefit LLC" in July 2023, when they had an 8mil seed funding round.

    • You want to know who the lead investor was? "Blockchain Capital". Wonderful. announcement
  • Mastodon's funding is on patreon, available to the public:

    • $21k / month (ie, about $250k yearly budget)
    • Mastodon GmbH is a german (actual) non-profit corp
  • Twitter began brainstorming Bluesky in 2019

    • 3 years after Mastodon
    • 1 year after #deletefacebook
    • My overriding feeling is that they made a competitor in extremely bad faith.

My take:
Mastodon is built in good faith using existing web standards and is a true open source project.
That mastodon has 1/4 of the active users of bsky is incredible, given the former is entirely community funded, and that the latter has the backing of the normal silicon valley sleezebags and their money.
