Hi @orchid pollen. I'm kapa.ai, your friendly support bot. I will try to answer your question by searching through the knowledge base.

You’re not imagining that things changed recently, but the help docs don’t mention any bug with Luna’s limits.

From the sources:

  • Free users now use GPT‑5.6 Luna as the default model and get unlimited everyday text chats, but separate limits still apply to tools like file uploads, images, voice, and data analysis.[Free tier FAQ]
  • GPT‑5.6 Luna is also what powers Think for harder questions on Free and Go.[GPT‑5.6 in ChatGPT]
  • When you hit a limit (for GPT usage or tools), ChatGPT should show a banner with when access will reset.[Free tier limits]

What’s not documented:

  • The exact numeric caps for Luna on the Free plan (messages per day, tokens, etc.) are not spelled out in these articles.
  • There’s no explicit note here about recent silent reductions or bugs in Free/Luna limits.

So if it feels like you’re hitting limits faster, that could be due to:

  • More intensive usage (longer prompts, more tool use, or Think more often), which consumes your allowance faster, even if the number of messages doesn’t look huge.
  • Being on the Ads‑Free variant of the Free plan, which explicitly has lower usage limits in exchange for no ads.[Ads‑Free Free plan]

If the in‑product reset time passes and you still can’t use Luna, or the limits feel clearly inconsistent with what’s shown, the docs say you can contact Support so they can investigate.

Note: you can ask me a follow up question by @ mentioning me again :speech_balloon:
