Project Chat Context Visibility Improvement
The new Projects feature in ChatGPT is excellent and already provides a strong organizational structure for advanced users managing multiple workflows, technical discussions, and long-term projects.
However, there is one small UX issue that can significantly impact workflow continuity.
When entering a Project, the user can clearly see the list of chats associated with that project. This works very well.
But after opening a specific chat inside the project, the UI continues to emphasize the Project name while the active Chat name becomes less visible or loses prominence.
This can easily cause users to continue writing in the wrong conversation without immediately noticing it.
For users working with multiple technical threads, documentation branches, coding sessions, or research discussions inside the same project, this creates a real organizational problem:
- context mixing,
- accidental topic overlap,
- workflow confusion,
- and reduced project clarity over time.
Suggested improvements:
- Add a persistent breadcrumb such as:
Project Name → Active Chat Name - Increase visual emphasis of the active chat title.
- Add a sticky contextual header showing the current chat.
- Optionally provide subtle context-awareness reminders.
This is a small UI adjustment with potentially large usability impact.
The Projects system already feels very close to ideal. This suggestion is simply about improving active conversation awareness for users managing complex or long-term workflows.
