@limpid shell How many Questions can i ask GPT 5.5 as a Free Plan User

Let me check the knowledge base for you again. One moment! :books:

#

As a ChatGPT Free user, you can send:

  • Up to 10 messages with GPT‑5.5 every 5 hours. After that, ChatGPT will automatically switch you to the mini version of the model until your 5‑hour window resets.[GPT‑5.5 usage limits]

Note: Some tools (data analysis, file/image uploads, image generation) have their own separate limits, in addition to this GPT‑5.5 message limit.[Free tier FAQ]

The knowledge sources only specify that Free users can send up to 10 GPT‑5.5 messages every 5 hours; they do not state a weekly total limit.[GPT‑5.5 usage limits]

So I’m sorry, but there’s no information in these sources about an official per‑week cap for GPT‑5.5 on the Free plan.

@limpid shell ■ You've hit your usage limit. Upgrade to Plus to continue using Codex
(https://chatgpt.com/explore/plus), or try again at May 23rd, 2026 3:54 PM.
what's wrong ?

That message means you’ve hit a usage limit, not that something is broken.

From the docs:

In your case, ChatGPT is telling you:

Nothing is wrong with your account; you’ve just temporarily used up your Codex allowance for your plan.

@limpid shell but it has been 2 days, the limit doesn't reset

The knowledge sources don’t describe a Codex limit that should stay blocked for multiple days on a Free ChatGPT account, so I can’t say for sure why yours hasn’t reset.

What we do know:

  • Free ChatGPT has time‑windowed limits (e.g., GPT‑5.5 is 10 messages per 5 hours), and separate, stricter limits for tools like Codex / data analysis / file uploads.[Free tier FAQ]
  • Codex limits are based on 5‑hour and weekly windows, and can be exhausted quickly depending on how heavy your tasks are.[Codex pricing FAQ]
  • There have been cases where Codex usage/limits behaved incorrectly and required a backend fix from OpenAI support.[Codex limit bug; Cloud task tracking fix]

Since your banner still shows a specific “try again at” time that has already passed, and the docs don’t explain a multi‑day lockout, this likely needs account‑specific support, not something you can fix yourself.

What you should do:

  1. In ChatGPT/Codex, use the in‑product help:
    • Go to Settings → Help → Contact us (or the help widget) and include:
      • Screenshot or exact text of the error
      • Your plan (Free)
      • That the “try again at” time has passed by 2+ days but the limit hasn’t reset
  2. If you’re using the Codex CLI/app, also send /feedback from the CLI as suggested by the Codex team.[Community guidance]
#

Explain that this appears similar to prior Codex limit/usage‑tracking issues; support can check and correct your limits on the backend if needed.
