Hi.

I am not sure how wide this issue has been, but just today, image generation takes too long. That's not even the core issue. Every time something is to be generated, we have to move out of the chat and go back again just to see the generated result or image, which makes it a bit hassle and annoying.

Where does this stem and why am I (at the very least, me) not seeing any notes or official announcements about this issue?

Thanks for raising this — let me share what the knowledge sources can tell you.

Slow Image Generation

Slow image generation is a known characteristic of GPT Image models. According to OpenAI's documentation, complex prompts may take up to 2 minutes to process as a stated limitation. [Image Generation Limitations]

To help with perceived latency, OpenAI does offer a streaming option for image generation via the API, which delivers partial images while the final result is being generated. However, this is an API-level feature and may not directly apply to your ChatGPT chat experience. [Streaming Images]

Having to Navigate Away and Back to See Results

The knowledge sources do not contain specific information about a bug where users need to leave and re-enter a chat to see generated images. This sounds like it could be a UI rendering or streaming issue on the ChatGPT interface.

General Troubleshooting Steps

For issues like these in ChatGPT, OpenAI recommends: [Troubleshooting ChatGPT]

  • Start a new chat
  • Refresh the page or restart the app
  • Disable browser extensions, VPNs, or proxies
  • Try incognito/private browsing or a different browser
  • Clear browser cache and cookies
