Hi @jagged mural. I'm kapa.ai, your friendly support bot. I will try to answer your question by searching through the knowledge base.
You’re right that Sora is not fully shut down yet, but there are two different shutdowns happening:
-
Sora web/app (consumer experience)
- The Sora web and mobile app experiences are scheduled to be discontinued on April 26, 2026.[Sora discontinuation]
- After that date, you won’t be able to use the Sora app / sora.com to generate new videos.
-
Sora API (developer Videos API, sora‑2 / sora‑2‑pro models)
- The Videos API and all Sora 2 models (
sora-2,sora-2-pro, etc.) are deprecated and will be shut down on September 24, 2026.[Deprecation history; Video generation guide]
- The Videos API and all Sora 2 models (
So depending on how you were using Sora:
- If you were using the Sora app or web UI, and it’s already past April 26, 2026 in your region, you won’t be able to generate anymore because that experience has been discontinued, even though the API is still online until September. [Sora discontinuation]
- If you’re using the API and calls to
sora-2/sora-2-proare failing before September 24, 2026, the knowledge sources don’t say why specifically—only that the service is deprecated and has a fixed shutdown date. [Deprecation history]
