Hi @pale lava. I'm kapa.ai, your friendly support bot. I will try to answer your question by searching through the knowledge base.

It sounds like your ChatGPT account or access was restricted and you believe it was a mistake.

OpenAI can suspend or deactivate accounts for reasons such as suspected violations of the Terms of Use or Usage Policies, security concerns, or activity from unsupported countries/regions. [Why account deactivated; Unsupported countries]

If you think this was a false ban or error, the official path is to appeal:

  1. Check your email (including spam) for any message from OpenAI explaining the deactivation/suspension and follow any instructions there. [Why can’t I log in]
  2. Go to the Help Center at help.openai.com and:
    • Click the chat bubble/help widget in the bottom-right, or
    • Use the relevant article’s “contact support” link,
and submit a request/appeal explaining that you believe the ban is in error. Include:
    • The email address on your account
    • Screenshots of any error or banner
    • Approximate time the issue started and your timezone
    • Whether you used VPNs, proxies, or are in an unsupported country [Suspicious activity alert; Model access issues]

For research-related or safety-testing use that triggered a ban, OpenAI explicitly says you can appeal via the Help Center if you believe it was done in error. [Researcher access FAQ]

I don’t have access to your specific account, so I can’t see the exact reason or reverse it myself; only Support can review and restore access.

Let me check the knowledge base for you again. One moment! :books:

#

If all of your OpenAI access (ChatGPT, API models like Codex, Sora preview, etc.) was banned or deactivated at once, that usually means your main OpenAI account was deactivated or suspended under the Terms of Use / Usage Policies, and that status applies across OpenAI services. [Why account deactivated; Terms of Use – termination]

I can’t see your account or the specific reason, and the knowledge sources don’t describe any way for me (or you) to override this directly. They do, however, describe how to appeal:

  1. Use the appeal link in the deactivation/warning email

  2. If you can’t access that email

#
  1. Include as much detail as possible (per OpenAI’s guidance):
    • Email on the account, User ID and Org ID (if you have them)
    • When the ban/deactivation happened
    • Any context about how you were using the services and why you think it’s a mistake
    • If you suspect account compromise, the date range and any steps you’ve taken (password change, API key rotation, etc.)
    • If there are billing issues or unauthorized charges, include the requested card details. [Appeal deactivation; Contact support]

OpenAI’s policies state that if you believe your account was suspended or terminated in error, you can appeal and they will review it. [Terms of Use – appeals; EU Terms – appeals]

I’m not able to speed up or influence that review; only the Support / Trust & Safety teams can decide whether to restore your access.
