Ok I can understand OpenAI using an ID verification as-a-service, but at the same time, I don't get why people with digital ID cards would still be required to use the Persona service with picture taking, device monitoring, PII gathering, GDPR headaches, etc... Because having a digital ID card allows you to issue verifiable, official proof of ID, that can make the Persona useless. At least for people with digital ID cards.

e.g. french citizens with a digital ID card and France Identité can submit a proof of ID containing a custom message (magic number, account ID, email address, whatever), so that OpenAI can link the account to a real ID. It's not that hard, but they must be willing to have an ID checking alternative besides Persona... I'm pretty sure some other countries support this kind of verification, and I don't really understand why Persona doesn't support it....

Tech is here, let's use it
