You can use ChatGPT in several ways that may support making money, but the knowledge sources only mention a few explicitly:
-
Create and share custom GPTs / apps (future monetization)
- You can build custom GPTs (now called apps) tailored for specific tasks and share them in the ChatGPT directory. [Release notes; Apps SDK]
- OpenAI has said that monetization details for apps will be shared in the future and plans to support the Agentic Commerce Protocol for instant checkout in ChatGPT. [Apps SDK]
- There is (separately) an experimental revenue program for some GPT builders, but it is limited to a small, selected group and not generally available. [GPT monetization FAQ]
-
Use ChatGPT outputs commercially
- You own the output you create with ChatGPT (subject to the Content Policy and Terms), including the right to reprint, sell, and merchandise it, whether you’re on a free or paid plan. [Commercial use]
- This means you can legally use ChatGPT-generated content in products or services you sell, as long as you comply with OpenAI’s terms.
- Use ChatGPT for data and code work that supports your business
- ChatGPT can perform data analysis (e.g., anomaly detection, aggregation, advanced statistics) and code execution, which you can use in your own paid work or services (consulting, analytics, etc.). [Data analysis; Code environment uses]
