I use Teams license bought by Canadian company but I physically located in Europe. Will I get new features available in US/Canada market later as other European customers?

Hi @ocean summit. I'm kapa.ai, your friendly support bot. I will try to answer your question by searching through the knowledge base.

#

The knowledge sources don’t state how OpenAI rolls out all new features in mixed situations like yours (Canadian Team workspace, user physically in Europe), so I can’t give a definitive rule for every feature.

What they do make clear is:

  • Many features are gated by account/workspace region and plan type, not just where you are physically. For example, data residency and inference residency are tied to the workspace’s configured region (US, Canada, EU, etc.). [Data residency API; ChatGPT data residency]
  • Some features are explicitly excluded for users in the EEA/UK/Switzerland, regardless of general availability elsewhere. For example, certain deep research connectors initially excluded those regions even while rolling out globally to others. [GitHub connector rollout; SharePoint/OneDrive rollout]
  • Other features have special handling for EU data residency workspaces (e.g., Task insights disabled by default in EU-residency workspaces). [Workspace analytics EU]
#

What is not clearly documented is whether OpenAI treats you as “European” for feature rollout because of your physical location, or as “Canadian/US-market” because of your Team workspace’s billing/region. The sources don’t specify this, so I can’t say whether you’ll receive new US/Canada features earlier, later, or on the same schedule as EU-based customers.

Given this gap, the safest next step is to check with your workspace admin or contact OpenAI (e.g., via support or Sales) with your workspace region, plan (Team), and your location, and ask how rollout applies in your specific case.

Let me check the knowledge base for you again. One moment! :books:

The knowledge sources don’t explain how feature rollout works for Codex specifically or for your exact situation (Canadian Team workspace, user in Europe), so I can’t say with certainty why you don’t see skills yet.

What is documented:

  • Skills are in beta and not available to everyone yet. They’re “available in beta in ChatGPT Business, Enterprise, Edu, Teachers, Healthcare plans. Skills are also supported in Codex and the API.” [Skills in ChatGPT]
  • For Enterprise and Edu, admins can completely turn skills on or off at the workspace level, and there are separate toggles for creating, publishing, and installing skills. [Skills admin controls]
  • Skills “don’t sync across products yet,” even though they follow the Agent Skills standard. So having skills in one product doesn’t guarantee you see them in another. [Skills in ChatGPT]

What’s not in the sources:

  • Any statement that Team workspaces always have skills in Codex.
  • Any rule about Codex skills availability depending on billing country vs. user’s physical location.
  • A precise rollout schedule for when each plan or region gets skills in Codex.

Given that skills are explicitly “beta” and controlled per workspace in some plans, the most likely explanations (based on what’s documented) are:

#
  1. Your organization’s plan or workspace configuration doesn’t have skills enabled yet (or at all), even if they’re being promoted generally.
  2. Your workspace admin may need to enable skills (if similar controls exist for your plan, as they do for Enterprise/Edu). [Skills admin controls]

Because the docs don’t cover Team + Codex + regional rollout in detail, the only definitive way to resolve this is:

  • Ask your workspace admin to check if skills are available/enable‑able for your org.
  • If they don’t see any skills settings, contact OpenAI support from the admin account and include:
    • Plan type (Team),
    • Workspace region/billing country (Canada),
    • Product where you’re missing it (Codex),
    • That skills are being promoted but not visible for you.

Without more specific documentation, I can’t reliably say whether you’ll get Codex skills on a US/Canada timeline or a later EU-style timeline.
