Why can't i make videos with sora AI? I can only make images, even when I click on video.

Hi @wintry coral. I'm kapa.ai, your friendly support bot. I will try to answer your question by searching through the knowledge base.

You’re running into a limitation of the specific Sora experience you’re using.

From the docs, Sora 1 on the web (sora.chatgpt.com) is being deprecated and its behavior is different from the newer Sora app / Sora 2 on web. In Sora 1, you can create images via “ChatGPT Images,” and then optionally turn those into videos, but full video generation is limited and the whole Sora 1 web experience is in the process of being phased out. [Creating images; Generating videos Sora 1]

Newer video features (Sora 2, Sora app, Sora 2 on sora.com, Sora 2 Pro, etc.) are being rolled out gradually and are not available to all accounts or regions yet. Access to the Sora app and Sora 2 is “slowly enabled,” and you may only see image creation or a limited set of options until your account is granted full access. [Getting started app; Sora access FAQ]

Because the help docs don’t show your exact UI, I can’t see precisely why your “Video” button only yields images, but the most likely reasons based on the documentation are:

  • You’re on the older Sora 1 web experience, which is being deprecated and has different/limited video behavior. [Generating videos Sora 1]
  • Your account hasn’t yet been enabled for the newer Sora 2 video features (app or sora.com). [Getting started app]

If you want to move toward full video access, the docs recommend:

#
  1. Using the Sora app (iOS/Android) or sora.com and requesting access / waiting for rollout. [Getting started app]
  2. Making sure you’re on a supported ChatGPT tier (Plus/Pro/Business) if you’re trying to use Sora via ChatGPT, since video generation is tied to those plans. [Sora usage tiers]

If you share exactly where you’re clicking “Video” (ChatGPT, sora.com, or the Sora app), I can map it more precisely to what the docs describe.
