This feature was previously available, but it was deprecated in the latest update (5 hours ago) – you can now edit ONLY your last message. This change significantly disrupts multiple workflows, including mine. If the current decision remains in place, I will have no choice but to cancel my subscription and look for an alternative service.

If you are also affected, please consider leaving a comment to help bring attention to this issue.

+1.

I have found that when an edited message exists earlier in a thread, you can still fork from that message if you flip through versions until you get back to version 1 of that message. Still not acceptable, still not full proper functionality, but maybe it helps others who have the same frustration to know this.

Removing the ability to edit previous prompts significantly reduces ChatGPT’s usefulness for iterative prompt testing and experimentation.

Previously, editing allowed me to modify a prompt and see how the response would change in a clean way. This was essential for comparing outputs and understanding how different inputs affect results.

Without editing, all follow-up prompts are influenced by prior context, which makes it impossible to get unbiased responses or run controlled comparisons within the same conversation.

Starting a new chat every time is not a practical replacement, as it breaks workflow and makes iteration much slower.

Please consider restoring prompt editing or adding a “re-run with changes” feature that allows users to modify a previous prompt and regenerate the response without prior context affecting it.

Huh, mine seems to work fine today. Is it different for people not on plus?
