What it says on the tin. The ONLY reason I don't move to a cheaper service is because of this feature.

This. Those features helped me a lot.

Exactly my guess too. Probably that was also the main reason behind retiring most of the legacy models.

Even though the ability to edit your earlier prompts has disappeared, there are still a couple of ways to work around it. It’s not exactly elegant, but it gets the job done.

  1. Use the mobile app and the desktop together.
The feature isn’t disabled there. Open the same thread in the mobile app, find the prompt you want to edit, and change it. It’s enough to replace it with a single dot (.), or write something like “stop” or “wait.”
Then refresh the thread on desktop. It will roll back to that point, and voilà, you can continue from there.
It’s a good idea to copy the text on desktop beforehand if you only want to tweak a few words, so you don’t have to rewrite everything from scratch.

  2. Use the branch feature.
This hasn’t gone anywhere, and it still works on older messages.
Create a new branch from the earlier message, and the conversation will continue from there in the new branch. You don’t need the mobile app for this. The advantage is that the original version stays intact, so you can compare the responses and decide which one you prefer.
At the end, you can simply delete any branch you don’t need.
