Hi @tall spruce. I'm kapa.ai, your friendly support bot. I will try to answer your question by searching through the knowledge base.
You can create a custom GPT (a “GPT”) directly inside ChatGPT if you’re on a paid plan (Pro/Plus, Business, Enterprise, or Edu). Here’s the basic flow:
-
Open the GPT Builder
- Go to [https://chatgpt.com/gpts](https://chatgpt.com/gpts) and click + Create, or
- Go directly to [https://chatgpt.com/gpts/editor](https://chatgpt.com/gpts/editor). [Creating a GPT]
-
Use the “Create” tab (optional but easiest)
- In the Create tab, chat with the GPT Builder and describe what you want, e.g. “Make a tutor that helps me learn Spanish” or “Make a bot that reviews my code.”
- The builder will propose behavior, name, and starters, and you can refine them in conversation. [GPT Builder]
-
Configure details
Switch to the Configure tab to fine‑tune: [Creating a GPT]- Name & Description – how it appears in your list.
- Instructions – what the GPT should do and avoid (its behavior).
- Conversation starters – example prompts users can click.
- Profile image – upload one or ask the builder to generate one.
- Knowledge – upload files the GPT can reference (PDFs, docs, etc.).
- Capabilities – toggle tools like:
- Web browsing
- Image generation
- Code Interpreter & data analysis
- Custom actions / Apps (optional) – connect external APIs or approved apps if you need integrations. [Creating a GPT]
-
Test your GPT
- Use the Preview pane on the right to chat with it and see if it behaves as intended. [GPTs (Enterprise)]
-
Publish and share
- Click Publish.
- Choose who can use it (options depend on your plan/workspace), such as:
- Only you
- People in your workspace
- Anyone with a link
- Public in the GPT Store (if eligible). [GPTs FAQ; GPTs Business]
That’s all you need to make a custom GPT—no coding required. If you want more depth, the “Creating a GPT” and “How can I use GPTs?” help articles walk through the same steps with screenshots. [Creating a GPT; How can I use GPTs]
