i made a similar suggestion ages ago but they deleted it.... ofc because they very limitedly implemented it.....
👍 💯
I think this is the same idea I wanted to post as feature request. Or maybe it's similar, mine is more projects inside folders.
Maybe they could distinguish from "create project" and "create folder", so that one is clearly only for grouping and organization, and the other is more active with instructions and sources.
I add it here, I don't know if it's the right feature request environment, I hope this is correct.
Feature request for ChatGPT Projects:
Please add nested project folders / sub-projects.
Current problem:
I use Projects for software-specific workspaces, for example LibreOffice, Scrivener, Goodnotes, and others. It's convenient because inside each project, I can write specific instructions for the devices I use, and my needs for specific requests.
The current system is useful, but as the number of projects grows, the sidebar becomes cluttered. Naming prefixes are not enough because projects are resurfaced and reordered by recent use.
What would help:
A parent folder structure such as:
Software
• LibreOffice
• Scrivener
• Goodnotes
• Numbers
• ...
Why this matters:
It would reduce sidebar clutter, improve organization, and make Projects scalable for users who separate work by app, topic, or domain.
It's a different approach but I like the idea... I fixed on folders but it a good idea to separate the projects themself and the organization by folders, that way Devs can't cry that vGPT chats have their own custom instructions... That way they could be organized to.... Couldn't pull to projects but still could pull to folders. I would expand your idea with nested folders for organization
