Hi @jaunty shale. I'm kapa.ai, your friendly support bot. I will try to answer your question by searching through the knowledge base.

OpenAI’s docs don’t describe a general “invite code” system for Sora where every user can hand out access codes, so there’s limited official detail on this.

What is documented is:

  • There is a referral / invite-friends promotion where some Sora users see an “Invite friends” option inside the Sora experience (app or account). That gives them a unique invite link they can share; when friends join Sora through that link, the inviter earns bonus video generations. [Invite friends]
  • This promotion is limited-time, only in countries where Sora is supported, and not all users are necessarily included—you only see it if your account is eligible. [Invite friends]

Separately, the Sora app itself is in an invite-only rollout phase, and during onboarding “you may also need to enter an invite code,” but the docs don’t say exactly who gets those codes or how they’re distributed (e.g., email campaigns, in‑app prompts, etc.). [Getting started Sora]

So, in short:

  • Some people can send Sora invite links because their account was selected for the official “Invite friends” promotion, which surfaces the link inside Sora.
  • The knowledge sources do not explain all the ways initial invite codes are distributed or why some users get them and others don’t.

Note: you can ask me a follow up question by @ mentioning me again :speech_balloon:
