A lot of discussion focuses on which model is being removed, but that’s not the core issue.
The real issue is choice and predictability for paying users.
People subscribe because something works well for their workflow.
When that experience changes or disappears after the fact, trust changes with it.
Technically better does not automatically mean better as a user experience.
Consistency, predictability, and control are features, not side details.
The assumption that “users will stay anyway” is risky.
Resistance doesn’t disappear just because new models are released. It accumulates and resurfaces later.. during pricing changes, bugs, or the next removal.
A simple Legacy option (no guarantees, no updates) would solve much of this:
It respects existing workflows
It reduces resistance to innovation
It strengthens long-term trust
Ironically, users are more willing to adopt new models when they feel safe and not forced.
This isn’t nostalgia.
It’s mature product feedback.
