Is there a way to have my chatGPT stay constant across different chats

what i really would like is to be able to start a new chat and have my AI's personality be consistent. so the personality of the one i am using now automatically be the personality in a new chat without having to set it all up again. is this possible?

Yes, this is possible—and it’s exactly what the new personalization features are for.

There are two main pieces:

1. Personality (base style and tone)
   You can pick a personality (e.g., Default, Friendly, Efficient, Professional, Candid, Quirky, Cynical, Nerdy) in Settings → Personalization → Base style and tone. Once you choose it, that personality applies across all chats, including existing ones, so every new conversation will use the same style automatically until you change it. [Customizing personality; Personality applies to all chats]

2. Characteristics & Custom Instructions (fine-tuning the vibe)
   Under Personalization → Characteristics, you can adjust things like warmth, brevity, formatting, and emoji level; these settings also carry over to new chats. [Characteristics]
   Custom instructions (also in Personalization) let you specify how you want ChatGPT to respond; updates there are applied immediately across all chats as well. [Custom instructions; Applies to all chats]

So: set your preferred Personality, Characteristics, and Custom Instructions once in Settings → Personalization, and that “AI personality” will stay consistent every time you start a new chat.
