Bug Report: GPT-5.2 Thinking redirects to GPT-4o-mini
`Steps to Reproduce`

Occasionally the model selector ignores the user-selected model, and responses are generated by GPT-4o-mini, although they still show in the web interface as having been generated by the originally selected model. This happened to me yesterday for a while but I am unable to reproduce it today.

`Expected Result`

Generate the response with the correct model, or maybe inform the user that the model has been switched due to server load/other causes

`Actual Result`

Response generated by 4o-mini without any visible indication (other than lack of thinking time and decreased response quality)

`Environment`

Chrome 143 on macOS (ChatGPT web interface)

I am reasonably confident this is not a "model misreporting its own name" issue given the model name being included in the system prompt for GPT-5.2-Thinking, and also the lack of any thinking time.

Since the recent update, when I paste text with 200+ lines into a ChatGPT 5.2 prompt line, it's automatically converted into an attached text file. This disrupts the interaction because commands are embedded within the pasted text. Please restore the previous behavior. I'll be switching to Gemini 3 in the meantime. It's a shame.

Did anyone find a fix for that?

@night nova Thanks to the amazing help of @bleak hound . To fix the issue you need to clear your chatgpt cache and cookies from the browser settings fully. Once you log back in it should be fixed.
