Hi @shut pollen. I'm kapa.ai, your friendly support bot. I will try to answer your question by searching through the knowledge base.
Sora 2 has strong rules around real people, and there are only two supported ways a real person can appear in Sora today:
1. Personal cameos (your own likeness)
To put yourself in Sora videos, you must use a cameo, which is an opt‑in capture of your real face and voice done inside the Sora app. You:
- Record a short verification video with audio so Sora can represent your likeness. [Generating content with Cameos]
- Choose who can use your cameo: Only me, People I approve, Mutuals, or Everyone. [Generating content with Cameos]
- When you make a new video, you can select your cameo so Sora uses your realistic face and voice in that clip. [Creating videos with Sora]
You can revoke or change permissions anytime, see any video (even drafts) that uses your cameo, and report or delete videos that include it if you don’t like how it’s used. [Generating content with Cameos]
Important: Uploading images or videos of real people to animate them is blocked; the only supported way to depict a real person is with their own cameo. [Creating videos with Sora]
2. Character cameos (not real people)
People also make “real‑looking” characters using character cameos, but these are not allowed to be real people:
- Character cameos are for objects and pets only, or fictional/original characters; you cannot legally create a character cameo of a real person. [Generating content with Cameos – FAQ; Sora release notes, Oct 29 2025]
- OpenAI’s policies prohibit editing or generating depictions of real people without explicit consent or to impersonate, harass, or mislead. [Generating content with Cameos – FAQ]
Why you see “real‑life” looking people in Sora
So when you see:
- People starring as themselves: they’re using their own personal cameo with their consent. [Getting started with the Sora app; Generating content with Cameos]
- Very realistic “characters”: they’re either fictional characters or pets/objects created as character cameos, not real individuals. [Sora release notes, Oct 29 2025]
You currently cannot just upload a random photo of a real person and turn it into a Sora 2 video.
How you can make your own Sora 2 videos
- Get access to the Sora app (invite‑based iOS rollout) or use Sora 2 on sora.com. [Getting started with the Sora app]
- Tap + and either:
- type a text prompt, or
- upload an image (but not one that shows real people). [Creating videos with Sora]
- (Optional) Select your personal cameo so you appear in the video. [Creating videos with Sora]
- Choose orientation (portrait / landscape) and duration (10 or 15 seconds in the app, longer via web storyboards if you’re Pro). [Creating videos with Sora; Sora release notes, Oct 15 2025]
- Generate, then iterate using Edit, Remix, or storyboards on web. [Creating videos with Sora]
If you tell me what exactly you’re trying to do (e.g., “put myself talking in a vlog‑style video”), I can walk you step‑by‑step through the cameo setup and prompt.
Note: you can ask me a follow up question by @ mentioning me again :speech_balloon:
