#How do I fix the face without changing anything else?

So I have been really frustrated at ChatGPT for refusing to do a simple face edit for the provided image. What I want is to "adjust the eyes to look more natural, soft, calm, and cute, with luminous metallic silver irises, and add a gentle, closed-mouth smile that feels warm, elegant, and serene."

But when I ask the model to do that, one of two things happen:

  1. It regenerates the image from scratch, losing important details (and sometimes not even getting it right either)
  2. It tells me it can't see the image even though I directly uploaded it (I think this is a bug).

Can someone please help me here?

Hi, @brisk sparrow . I can totally understand your frustration, as I've been there many times. Have you tried the in-image editing tool? Results are mixed in my experience, but it might be worth a try?

(sorry for late response, I was on the road when you replied)

Go back to the chat and click on the image you want to edit. When the edit screen opens, look for the paint brush icon on upper right, mask the area you want to change, and describe the change you want (see screen capture). The image I got back does show the eye color change I requested, but it also changed the facial expression. This is what I meant when I said mixed results earlier. It happens because ChatGPT's native image generation always regenerates the entire image. It's a little better with in-image editing tool, and in my experience, the tool works better with photorealistic images.
