#Disable 2FA
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
If you are being asked for a code sent to your email when logging into your ChatGPT account, this is not the same as two-factor authentication (2FA) or multi-factor authentication (MFA) using an authenticator app. Email verification codes are a security measure triggered by actions such as logging in from a new device, an unusual location, or making sensitive account changes. This process cannot be disabled, as it is designed to protect your account from unauthorized access and is separate from MFA/2FA settings.
If you have enabled MFA (using an authenticator app), you can disable it from your account settings:
- For ChatGPT: Go to ChatGPT settings > Security tab and select "Disable" under Multi-factor authentication.
- For the API Platform: Go to Your Profile > Security tab and select "Disable" under Multi-factor authentication.
However, the email code prompt for login verification will still appear in certain situations and cannot be turned off, as it is a core security feature of OpenAI accounts. This is confirmed in the documentation: “You may be required to verify your login if: You’re logging in from a new or unrecognized device, there’s been an attempt to log in from an unusual location, you’re updating sensitive account information, or you’ve requested a security check on your account” Why Am I Being Asked to Verify My Login?.
In summary: You can disable MFA/2FA if you set it up, but you cannot disable the email verification code requirement for certain logins or account actions.
