- Create a Project for writing.
- Upload canon files (e.g. character sheets, maps).
- Reference them in chats.
- Try to replace/update one of those files.
- Notice you cannot delete or overwrite if a chat references it.
Projects labeled “Writing” should support evolving canon. I should be able to overwrite/update a referenced file (same ID), or version it, so chats always use the current draft instead of being frozen on outdated files.
Referenced files are frozen. There’s no overwrite or versioning. Any update forces me to abandon the project and re-upload everything into a new one. With file caps, this makes long-form creative writing projects impossible to continue.
Impact: As a novelist working across 192+ page drafts, I can no longer maintain continuity. The lack of overwrite/versioning makes ChatGPT unusable for ongoing creative work and has killed my ability to advance the project.
