Here’s what each experimental phone line can do:

1-800-ChatGPT (calls and WhatsApp)

  • No account required. Call from a U.S./Canada number or message via WhatsApp from supported countries (standard carrier fees may apply) (1-800-ChatGPT overview).
  • WhatsApp capabilities: send text, create images, upload/edit images, send voice notes, and get up-to-date info from the web. Responses are in text or images. Not available in group chats. Personalization features (e.g., custom instructions, memory) require logging into a ChatGPT account and aren’t available via WhatsApp alone (1-800-ChatGPT overview).
  • Usage limits: 30 minutes of calling per month (U.S./CA) and daily limits on WhatsApp messages; higher limits if you link your ChatGPT account (1-800-ChatGPT overview).
  • Data: If you link your ChatGPT account to WhatsApp, your WhatsApp chat history (past and future) is stored with your ChatGPT conversation history and follows the same data controls; you can delete conversations (subject to retention exceptions) (Data retention note).
  • Known limitations: May sometimes not respond due to safety measures or early-stage issues; you can send feedback if your prompt follows usage policies (Why it may be unresponsive).

1-888-GPT-0090 (AI voice help line)

  • No account required. Designed to answer general questions about ChatGPT and OpenAI products. Not a customer support hotline and cannot handle account-specific issues (cancellations, refunds, login, billing) (1-888-GPT-0090 overview).
  • Usage limits: 10 minutes per session (U.S./CA) (1-888-GPT-0090 overview).
  • Data: Calls (audio and transcripts) may be retained to improve services and for safety; efforts are made to reduce identifying info in training data. Calls aren’t linked to a ChatGPT account, and exports/deletions aren’t available because conversations are disassociated from your phone number (1-888-GPT-0090 overview).
  • Known limitations: May sometimes be unresponsive due to safety measures or the experimental nature; feedback is encouraged if prompts follow usage policies (Unresponsiveness info).

Note: OpenAI lists 1-800-ChatGPT as an authentic number for experimental access via calls/WhatsApp; it’s not a support line (Verifying communications).

No. ChatGPT subscriptions cannot be transferred between accounts. To use a subscription on a different account, cancel the active subscription on your current account and then purchase a new one from the desired account. If you no longer have access to the original account, contact Support with your billing details so they can cancel it for you. For moving conversations, follow the chat export/import workaround instead (Can I transfer my ChatGPT subscription to a new account?, Transferring Conversations).

Here are the OpenAI/ChatGPT domains recommended for allowlisting on company networks:

If you’re enabling Advanced Voice Mode, also allow the LiveKit endpoints (outbound hosts/ports) and the subdomain chatgpt.livekit.cloud as documented by LiveKit (Advanced Voice firewall) (Advanced Voice firewall).
