Bug Report: ChatGPT — “Unable to load projects”; one-time “Retry” button disappears with no effect
`Steps to Reproduce`

Sign in to ChatGPT (Plus).

The projects pane shows “Unable to load projects” with a single “Retry” button.

Click “Retry” → the button disappears; nothing loads; the error remains.

`Expected Result`

Projects list/pages load normally; pressing Retry refreshes and shows projects.

`Actual Result`

Projects never load; persistent “Unable to load projects” banner. The one-time Retry button vanishes after click with no effect. Reproducible on Web, Windows desktop app, and smartphone; same with and without various VPNs.

`Environment`

Subscription: Plus; OS: Microsoft Windows 11 Home Single Language 10.0.26100 (Build 26100); Web: Google Chrome 139.0.7258.67 (Official Build) (64-bit); Also reproduced on: Microsoft Edge (current) and ChatGPT for Windows desktop app (current); Mobile: smartphone (same behavior); Network: tried with/without multiple VPNs (no change).

I have the exact same problem. Been going on for a week or two now. Frustrating as hell.

Support team continues to suggest the issue may be on my side, but I’ve exhausted every client-side fix across browsers, devices, and networks—so the evidence points to a service-side problem on their end. I think the investigation now seems to be at an impasse.

Projects works only on IOS APP but not in the Safari 🔥 (on the same phone iphone 13pro)

The worst part is that I still pay for the subscription.

The issue is most likely related to the subscription. For example, on the free plan you don’t get access to projects, but on Plus you do. So I think something went wrong during the upgrade from free to premium.

I think the only way to solve this is to contact support https://help.openai.com/ and create a ticked for your particular issue

Update: my Projects just came back. Not sure if it was coincidence, a backend fix rolling out, or my email to support, but everything loads again and all projects are present.
