About updating model GPT-5(?).

In the normal version, we can’t choose to change other models, except model GPT-5 and auto. But in the plus version, we can choose models! (sorry im broke asf)

Ugh I mean I don’t hate new model but I see me more suitable for GPT-4o. So when does it return? I really need it for my novel writing…. 😭😭😭

Regarding GPT-4o:

  • For free users, GPT-4o access is limited and depends on current demand. When you hit your usage limit, ChatGPT automatically switches you to GPT-4.1 mini. You can continue using GPT-4.1 mini without limits, or upgrade to a paid plan for more access to GPT-4o and the ability to choose models directly from the model picker.
  • Paid users (Plus, Pro, Team, Enterprise) can select from multiple models, including GPT-4o, using the model picker. Free users do not have this option and are subject to automatic switching between models based on usage and availability.
  • There is no mention in the knowledge sources of GPT-4o being removed permanently for free users; it is still available, but with usage caps. If you want more consistent access to GPT-4o, upgrading to a paid plan is currently the only way to guarantee it.

If you are seeing only "GPT-5" and "auto" as options, this is not reflected in the official documentation, and there is no information about a GPT-5 model being available or replacing GPT-4o. The knowledge sources do not mention when (or if) GPT-4o will return as a selectable option for free users, or any changes to this policy in the near future.
