Hello everyone!

I just wanted to test out the OpenAI API, and deposited 5$ into my account, and set my monthly usage limit to 100$. Now I tried to make my first API request and I got this message 429 You exceeded your current quota, please check your plan and billing details. For more information on this error, read the docs: https://platform.openai.com/docs/guides/error-codes/api-errors. Request ID: req_x.

How come I exceeded my quota when I haven't made any requests, and the 5$ are still on my account? How come I also exceed my quota when my monthly limit is set to 100$?

It takes a little while for funds to be applied to an account so that it can be used by the API. Check it again in an hour. I don't think it should take that long. You know how it is when systems need to communicate...
Personally I leave the monthly limit way down, just in case I do something stupid like picking an expensive model for a huge job and it runs away.

I hope you enjoy the API. It's a lot of fun when you get into it - and see the power it has for just a few pennies per transaction compared to the $20/month ChatGPT UI and related features.

I deposited those 5$ a month ago, I gave up then, and tried to test this again 😄

Definitely, also it's really useful when used with Cline to help me with programming so I don't have to copy-paste all the time from the browser chat 😄

Without details I can't suggest much. If you have a question about billing for OpenAI products (such as ChatGPT Plus, API usage, etc.), you'll want to visit the official Help Center:
https://help.openai.com/en/collections/6825453-billing

For account-specific issues, you can also contact OpenAI support directly through the Help widget on that site. The Discord server team does not have access to billing systems or user account data.

Post here how that goes, k?
