Bug Report: Edit Message Feature not working (Android App)
`Steps to Reproduce`

Usually, you would open the app and create a thread. Then you'd long press the message to have the 'edit' feature pop up and click that to edit your message (add details, change prompt, etc.) and then click send again.

`Expected Result`

The previous unedited message(s) + the responses to those unedited versions should be wiped and the conversation should start (or restart) from the message you edited.

`Actual Result`

The previous versions of the unedited message (+ the responses from the AI) stack and appear, creating a thread with the edited/finalized version of the chat at the very bottom of the chat.

`Environment`

Android App (Version 1.2025.189 (11))

Hello! Just here to add onto the pile so hopefully this issue gets more attention ๐Ÿ˜„ I am currently using the ChatGPT android app version 1.2025.189 (11) (which is the latest version available on my device type). This bug has been happening to me ever since two days ago.

Usually, when I edit a message (which I do a lot), the chat thread gets wiped and the conversation continues/restarts from the message I edited. However, from about two days ago, whenever I edit a message in a thread, the server/app seems to register the edit and behave normally (continuing the chat from the point I edited), but whenever I close the conversation to open either another app or another conversation thread (which is what I demonstrated here), the unedited versions of the messages seem to reappear, causing clogging. My main use of the app requires perfect continuity and coherency, so this bug really messes the flow of my usage (since now the unedited messages, things I deleted or rewrote or added get jumbled into the chat memory/pattern/behavior) and kind of ruins my experience...

I've tried:

  • Switching the models (I tried to switch it to 4.1 instead of 4o)
  • Switching back and forth from Wi-Fi to mobile data
  • Deleting the application cache multiple times
  • Closing and reopening the app
  • Force stopping the app
  • Logging out and re-logging in
  • Uninstalling and reinstalling the app

and sadly, none of these things/steps have helped or worked to resolve the issue. I've also went to https://help.openai.com to talk to support about this issue but sadly it also hasn't helped ๐Ÿฅฒ This bug seems to only affect the app version for android as the web version (on my phone) seem to work just fine and the edit feature functions just fine. I've also heard other users say this bug doesn't happen on iOS and PC web.

Hope this issue gets resolved soon! ๐Ÿ˜„

That looks remarkably similar to the other report that is at the top of the bug list with 21 votes. Would you like to +1 over there and maybe close this report?
