Bug Report: You can only generate 1 image or video at a time
`Steps to Reproduce`
  1. Open the image or video generation interface (e.g. Remix or similar).

  2. Start generating an image.

  3. While the generation is in progress, click the ❌ to cancel it.

  4. Try to start a new image or video generation.

  5. Observe the error message even though no image or video is being generated.

`Expected Result`

After cancelling the previous image generation, I should be able to start a new one immediately — since no generation is currently running.

`Actual Result`

The system shows the error:

"You can only generate 1 image or video at a time. Upgrade to generate more images or videos at the same time"

Even though no generation is ongoing, and I have a ChatGPT Plus subscription. I confirmed that no generation task is active.

`Environment`

– ChatGPT Pro / Plus – Web version (Chrome, macOS) – Bug appeared on June 30, 2025 – It was working fine until I cancelled an image generation mid-process

I have already tried logging out of ChatGPT and signing back in — the issue persists. I also cleared my browser cache and cookies, but that did not help either. The problem only started after I manually cancelled an image generation. Before that, everything worked normally.

Image generation is not working anymore, but video generation works fine.
I’ve tried clearing all cookies, cache, and everything else — it doesn’t help.
Videos are generating, but for images I still get the message saying I’m already in a queue.
I also tried sending the cancelled image to the trash, but it won’t go there.

✅ Update: The issue with image generation being stuck is now fixed!

After I cancelled an image generation, the system kept showing the error:
"You can only generate 1 image or video at a time", even though nothing was running. Videos worked fine, but images were completely blocked.

I contacted OpenAI through the official Help Center:
https://help.openai.com
Used the chat button in the bottom right and explained the problem in detail.

Told them I was using the ChatGPT web app in Chrome on macOS, that video generation was working, and that I had already tried clearing cookies, cache, logging out and back in, etc.

They confirmed it’s a known issue — sometimes after cancelling, the image generation queue gets stuck and needs to be reset manually on the backend.

I asked them to escalate it, and they did. A support specialist reset it manually — and now everything works again!

If you run into this, just go through the Help Center chat and request a manual reset. It works.

Big thanks to OpenAI support — they were super fast and helpful 🙌

Because they said 'Thanks for clarifying! The message you’re seeing—"You can only generate 2 images or videos at a time. Upgrade to generate more..."—relates to the concurrency limit for image and video generation in ChatGPT Team, where you can queue up to 2 generations at once. Sometimes, the queue can get “stuck” if a previous generation didn’t complete or clear properly. Here’s what you can try, based on OpenAI’s guidance: Wait a Little Longer: Sometimes the limit takes a bit to reset, especially if a generation is delayed or failed. Clear Cache/Switch Browsers: Occasionally, issues clear up after clearing your browser’s cache/cookies or switching to a different browser or device. Incognito/Private Window: Try opening ChatGPT in a private/incognito window to rule out browser issues. Check for Model Picker Notifications: Hover over the model name in the model selector. If you’ve hit a usage cap, you’ll see when it’ll reset. Check OpenAI’s Status Page: Occasionally, temporary server-side issues can cause queues to stick. Check https://status.openai.com for any known issues. Unfortunately, there isn’t a manual backend reset process available to users or support agents. The queue automatically resets itself when no jobs are running, and the limit timer runs out. If the problem continues for more than 2–3 hours after trying the steps above, it’s usually resolved by then automatically. If you’ve waited and tried all of the above and it’s still not clearing after several hours, please let me know—there may be a broader issue, and I’ll help you further!'

I was generating images, and I noticed that one of the older images still shows the "loading" animation as if it’s being created. This happens in the area where all images are displayed. However, in the top right corner I don’t see any notification, and I’m not generating anything at the moment.

But when I try to generate a new image and then request a second generation, I get a message saying I’m limited to only one image. This doesn’t make sense since I have a Plus plan, which I specifically pay for to avoid this limitation.
