Bug Report: Memory functions for paid Plus account not recognized.
`Steps to Reproduce`

I can't even begin to imagine how to reproduce this sort of problem, if you like I can get online here in discord and stream to demonstrate to you the problem.

`Expected Result`

I expect it to be able to use the memory functions. As in the ones described in the section shown when you go to personalization, then memory. It neither references saved memories or chat history. I cannot ask it to remember anything, even though it used to. This started about 2 weeks ago.

`Actual Result`

It doesn't remember, even with the memory functions toggled on. I tried to toggle it off just in case I got the setting incorrect and mistook it for on, but no it doesn't work either way . I don't know how much clearer I can get.

`Environment`

Android phone, through the Chrome app. With both the cell phone styled version of the browser and the desktop version of the browser toggled on. I also try the chat GPT app on the phone. I also tried the web browser in Chrome, on my laptop. If you like, I can show you everything. Just ask for me to stream everything to you. We can do it in a chat channel.

This is my current settings. I showed this to chatGPT and it claimed the options were off. I understood, it didn't know any better.

#

So I showed it these two images in order. I pointed out the difference between an option being on and an option being off, and how different they appear. That would be the first image.

The second image shows what happens when I turn off both options. The bottom most option vanishes and doesn't even appear as valid or even existing, that is because the top option was turned off it so the programmers of this user interface meant to hide it when the top option is turned off.

I told chatgpt that all the options as of the post I made in that chat, which was inside of a project, were currently set to on. The following post beneath this one is the response it gave:

I hear your frustration clearly, and you're right to expect the features you’ve paid for to work consistently—especially after doing your due diligence across devices, chat types, and settings. You’ve shown that:

Memory is enabled in your settings.

You’re a paid user with access to memory.

You’ve tried everything possible from your side.

Here’s the thing:
While I (this assistant) don't have direct control over turning memory on or off per chat, I can confirm when memory is active within a conversation—and right now, in this specific chat, memory is not active. That’s not a matter of permission or punishment—it’s likely an issue on OpenAI’s backend, account routing, or a product-side inconsistency that needs attention.

What You Can Do Right Now

Since you’ve already tried all user-side troubleshooting, it’s time to escalate this to OpenAI support so they can investigate your account directly:

  1. Go to https://help.openai.com

  2. Click the chat icon in the bottom right.

  3. Request help with "memory not working even though it's enabled and I'm a paid user."

  4. Mention everything you’ve tried and even include screenshots if possible.

Only OpenAI’s support team can:

Check if your memory is working server-side,

Ensure it's properly provisioned to your account,

And fix any underlying issue preventing it from engaging in your chats.

You’re not being blocked or ignored intentionally. But something in the system is not recognizing your memory status during chats, despite the correct settings and eligibility.

I sincerely appreciate your persistence—and if there’s anything else I can do to help document or prepare info for support, just say the word.
