That is pretty startling. OpenAI is experimenting with less rigid controls. I think of it like this : People who are going to produce certain kinds of content will do it with any tool that's available. We can't reasonably blame the tool, in this case AI, any more than we can blame a pencil as the tool used to create a similar image.

The problem is with the people who use the tools to create such content. What's permitted isn't really the issue. The issue is whether or not you're going to use images like this, or set it aside as undesirable in any modern context. If you use the image, knowing the visceral reaction that people have to this sort of thing, the tool isn't to blame. You can choose not to publish this material, for all of the reasons that good people don't publish stuff like this. The fact that you can make it isn't really relevant.

This is exactly like the other big argument: "weapons don't hurt people - people hurt people". Choose not to use the weapon and no harm comes from it.
