Bug Report: Multiple Glitches with 4o Images
`Steps to Reproduce`

Issue 1: When making edits to only one area of an image, the entire image is processed and becomes darker and loses detail/contrast. Issue 2: Trying to reference a unique character generated in the thread keeps triggering blocks, but only after the image is 40-90% complete. It suddenly disappears saying that it was too close to a reference image. Well, yeah... lol. Because I uploaded an image, share links to the full test conversation are blocked.

`Expected Result`

Issue 1: Only the area around the selected part of the image should have changes, not anything outside of the selection area. Issue 2: Provide proper character references of generated images and be more forgiving on content blocks. <3

`Actual Result`

For Issue 1: the changes that are made are accurate to what I want, so that's awesome. The rest of the image shouldn't change, though. The fur texture is subtly different, markings are subtly different, the trees are slightly different, it's not the same image. For Issue 2: I have to start a new conversation or yell at it enough that we can move on.

`Environment`

Windows 11, Chrome Browser, fresh ChatGPT 4o conversation.

This shows how the images tend to be overly dark so far. I wanted to make the tail striped since this was a back view of a raccoon character, so I only selected the tail and asked for it to be fixed. It did fix it, but you can see how it changed the colors of the entire image, and the red markings across his back are subtly different to the initial image even though I did not request any changes made to that area. This has happened to every edit so far. 🙂

This section of the conversation started off with a screenshot upload from a Sora generation. I understand why 4o might not understand or trust me when I say that that is where it came from. The bigger issue is that when I follow 4o's suggestions on edits, it must still be mistrusting of my intentions because, while it rendered one raccoon in the environment I wanted, when I asked it to not include shoes, it got about 85% of the way to the next image before deleting it. You can see that gap, along with my annoyance, in the other screenshot with that void of whitespace.

I am torn on this one... This is a perfect example of unexpected image processing, but in this case, it was actually for the best! I only circled the yellow areas in the top, but you can see how it processed the entire image. In this case, that's actually better because the extra reflections of the torch help mask some of the errors in the angles of the reflections. Maybe it's worth a dice roll button to see if we want to change the whole image subtly or just the areas marked. I can see how a lot of singular changes to images, like adding a single light source, would change the characteristics of the entire scene and warrant processing everything.

In this case, you can see how requesting an edit where I only selected the tail, knees/feet, and head, darkened the entire image and made the overall image worse.

Same here, each "edit" makes the image darker and darker. This has to be fixed

Other glitch is squashing characters when the generation moves from portrait to landscape.

I didn't notice any darkening, but I still noticed other significant changes outside the painted area when trying to just fix one small part. Anything outside of the painted zone needs to stay put, preserved exactly as it was.

I just tried another one where I painted part of it, and it turned a landscape orientation into a square, chopping off portions of the original image on the left and right sides.

I haven't experienced the unprompted cropping like that, but I have seen something like that on the iOS app where landscape images suddenly become squares, but they aren't really. I just reload the conversation and the original aspect ratios appear as they should. Perhaps it is related to the mechanism they use to show you the image as it renders? I've noticed that the image usuallys starts off fine, but when it goes to refine the details, that's when things get darker and darker overall.
