Bug Report: Inability to access project files
`Steps to Reproduce`

Ask GPT if it can access project files and if it can get specific sections of a file, like a list of names.

`Expected Result`

A response of either yes, and a list of names. Or no, I can't access the files.

`Actual Result`

Apologies for any confusion earlier. I don't have access to the document you've mentioned.

Apologies for any confusion earlier. I can access the project files you've uploaded.

It switches out the answers and does not access the file.
It does however do a web search for unknown reasons and I have 'sources' at the bottom

`Environment`

Windows 10 Chrome & GPT app.

@high mango I was dealing with what man be the same issue. You say it does a search. Go to your custom settings and turn off auto Web search. (removed note of bug no longer present)

When it can't search it follows training and context much better. See a recent bug report that i posted here.

I haven't checked with project files yet, but I can tell you how a project works with custom instructions.

There is no Search button in projects when there are custom instructions or a file.

But with or without Auto Web Search on, if you ask a question and explicitly ask for the latest information, it will do a search. (just verified)

With Auto Web Search on, I believe it does search for information that it doesn't see in the current context/files. (The OP says it's not using the files.)

I don't know yet how this would integrate search information with file data (if it's used), or how it would resolve inconsistencies between local and remote data. I believe if we ask it to compare searched information with information in context, it should be able to do so. But again, according to the OP this might not be happening.

So I think this is exactly the bug reported in the OP, that if a search is done it doesn't use the project files. I haven't looked at this. Maybe you could tell us?

I hope that helps.
