Why is it when files are uploaded into a Project in chatGPT, you never seem to read or retain the information in the files. You also don't seem to follow the instructions provided in the Project.

Hi @exotic birch. I'm kapa.ai, your friendly support bot. I will try to answer your question by searching through the knowledge base.

If you're experiencing issues with files and instructions not being utilized in ChatGPT Projects, there are a few things to consider based on the available information:

  1. File Context: When you upload a file to a Project, the file's content is only applicable within the context of that specific Project. Ensure that your conversations are taking place within the Project where the files are uploaded. Files uploaded to a Project will not influence conversations outside of that Project. Source

  2. Custom Instructions: Custom instructions set within a Project will supersede any instructions set in your general ChatGPT account. Make sure that the instructions are correctly set within the Project and that you are interacting within the Project context. Instructions in a Project do not interact with conversations outside of that Project. Source

  3. Model Limitations: Projects in ChatGPT use the GPT-4o model, and the model cannot be changed. Ensure that the features you are trying to use are supported by this model. Source

If these considerations do not resolve the issue, it might be helpful to revisit the setup of your Project or consult additional resources or support from OpenAI. For more detailed guidance, you can refer to the Using Projects in ChatGPT article.
