Hi, I'm just trying out the OpenAI API in a newly created project, I haven't added any balance or billing info or so and just wanted to check this out as it's mentioned that it's free, but I'm getting a 429 with the message You exceeded your current quota, please check your plan and billing details. For more information on this error, read the docs: https://platform.openai.com/docs/guides/error-codes/api-errors, what am I doing wrong?

I saw that in the example they had a model property, using which I'm getting a 500 so I decided to try without it and apparently that's giving a 429
I see that the omni-moderation-latest model is supported on the free tier, maybe it defaults to text-moderation-latest if I don't specify any?

its free to use but its meant to be paired with paid api calls so it does a quota check which means you need to add at least come credits

free was the old trial and is the tier when you get a credit grant eg. for research purposes

So even though limits aren't 0 for my account as shown in https://platform.openai.com/settings/organization/limits, I must spend money to be entitled to those limits?

trial gave free credits but it was discontinued so you need to have a balance now. payment is also used as partial id check against abusive usage

might try it again after it has upped you to tier 1 with the min balance
