Hey everyone!

Meet Drewbert — an AI-powered overdose detection bot I’ve been working on. In July, a friend of mine was found dead in his truck after a silent relapse. I'm in long-term recovery myself, and I’ve always wanted to do something in this space. It’s tough though with all of the issues that people face and the revolving door of people in and out of recovery. I’m probably rambling here…

Anyway, here’s what Drewbert does:

• Real-time chat: You can talk to him for harm reduction tips, support, or to find local resources like rehabs or needle exchanges.
• Overdose detection: If someone’s about to use, Drewbert checks in and tries to help keep them safe. If an overdose is suspected, Drewbert will reach out to an emergency contact.
• Resource locator: He can find treatment centers, harm reduction tools, and other services based on where you are.

Right now, Drewbert’s live on Telegram. He won't actually contact your emergency contact at the moment so if you want to try him out, you can here: https://drewbertapp.com -- If you do try to break him, PLEASE let me know of any bugs you find or any improvements that can be made.

I am currently working on getting him set up for Facebook Messenger and Instagram while I wait for approval to send SMS messages.

I'd love to hear everybody's questions, thoughts, ideas, etc.

Thanks!

unfortunately, the recovery world has become kind of political

Still maintain it on Telegram online, or implement on Discord

Facebook Messenger could be a challenge for this app though

My roadblock is who how do we notify responders of an overdose?

  • Can't send SMS without an opt-in
  • RapidSOS requires a minimum of $100,000 multi-year contracts

I considered a volunteer dashboard where responders could sign up and receive alerts. I guess Philadelphia piloted somethingl ike that a few years ago. They sent out 1300 alerts in that time period. 16.96% responded they were en-route. Only 11.9% actually showed up and 5% did not show up.

# empty drift Great idea for a proposal like this to your State's emergency department, and as...

I did email some people and never heard back. Our county needs to spend 300k before December and I can't get anybody to respond lol

I'm tempted to go to a government meeting to pressure them but it's really demoralizing for a project that is more passion than financial...

Regarding the 300k, basically, they used opioid settlement money to supplement probation's salary adn the state told them no. Then they made a speical opioid panel of all of their buddies 🙃

HOLLIDAYSBURG — Blair County commissioners on Thursday named a committee to make recommendations on how to spend the county’s allocations from the National Opioid Settlement. While some counties formed advisory committees more than a year ago, Blair County commissioners tried other tactics, then appointed a committee Thursday. Their action comes...
