#Sharing chats from team account to general public

A person with a team subscription is discussing and trying to share conversations with me, who is a plus subscriber but not part of their team.

None of the conversations are visible to me. Is there a setting that can be adjusted so these conversations can be viewed? Is it intended that teams chats cannot be shared outside of the team?

Hi @shy hill. I'm kapa.ai, your friendly support bot. I will try to answer your question by searching through the knowledge base.

Yes, it is intended that team chats cannot be shared outside of the team. A ChatGPT Team workspace is a collaborative environment where each user has their own chat history but can choose to share specific chats and GPTs within the workspace. However, you will not be able to see other users' chats if you are not part of the team workspace source (https://help.openai.com/en/articles/9171536-why-can-t-i-see-all-the-chats-of-my-members-within-a-team-workspace).

Shared links allow users to generate a unique URL for a ChatGPT conversation, which can then be shared with members in the user’s workspace. If a team chat is shared with someone who is not within the workspace, the non-author member will be redirected to their ChatGPT landing page without seeing the shared chat. They will see that they don’t have access to this shared chat source (https://help.openai.com/en/articles/8798634-shared-links-faq-chatgpt-team-version).

Therefore, if you are not part of the team workspace, you will not be able to view the shared chats from the team account.

@surreal holly Do team accounts all have private workspaces too that can potentially be used to make anyone-sharable chats in?

Yes, a user can have both a personal workspace and a team workspace. When a user accepts an invite to a ChatGPT Team workspace, they can join a collaborative workspace shared with other team members. If they also have a ChatGPT Personal workspace (Free or Plus), they have the option to keep their personal workspace separate from their team workspace source (https://help.openai.com/en/articles/8801890-can-i-migrate-or-merge-my-chatgpt-free-or-plus-workspace-over-to-my-chatgpt-team-workspace).

In the personal workspace, they can create chats that can be shared with anyone, depending on the settings. However, it's important to note that the chats and settings of the personal workspace are separate from those of the team workspace.

@surreal holly If a user has merged or never created a personal workspace, and is on a team account, can they create one without having to create an entire new account?

Yes, if a user's Team workspace is deactivated and the user has an existing personal workspace, the user will still have access to their personal workspace. If they do not have an existing personal workspace, they will be invited to create a new personal workspace source (https://help.openai.com/en/articles/8798618-what-happens-if-a-workspace-has-been-deactivated).

However, it's important to note that if a user chose earlier to merge their personal workspace with their Team workspace, the user's previous personal workspace cannot be recovered source (https://help.openai.com/en/articles/8798618-what-happens-if-a-workspace-has-been-deactivated).

So, if a user has merged their personal workspace with a team workspace, they cannot unmerge it. But if they never had a personal workspace to begin with, they can create one without having to create an entire new account.

@surreal holly can an existing team account member use their account to create a new personal workspace while their merged team account is open and available?

Based on the information provided in the knowledge sources, once a user has merged their personal workspace with a team workspace, the personal workspace is deleted and cannot be recreated while the team workspace is active source (https://help.openai.com/en/articles/8801890-can-i-migrate-or-merge-my-chatgpt-free-or-plus-workspace-over-to-my-chatgpt-team-workspace#h_6c77c0c999).

The option to create a new personal workspace is only presented if the team workspace is deactivated source (https://help.openai.com/en/articles/8798618-what-happens-if-a-workspace-has-been-deactivated).

Therefore, an existing team account member cannot use their account to create a new personal workspace while their merged team account is open and available.
