I'm having the same problem on one of my more important prompts. Edit: I have two accounts for chatgpt one for work-related stuff and one for general use and both of them are having this problem on the latest prompt

and sometimes the message box thinks its generating while it isnt

I think i know what its doing
It only happens when you open the same conversation on a different device
I started a new convo and got it to generate something
then i opened GPT on my phone and entered the same convo, the buttons there were gone
But the UI buttons were on the first device

To get the buttons back. Give it a prompt and while its generated, click the edit button on the last 2 prompts and keep it open until it stops generating, once it does, the UI buttons should be back

This is ridiculous. At this point, I can't use the GPT properly, and I can't keep making new chats just to get the buttons working again and again.

The 'stop' button working slower than usual, being unable to press refresh or scroll through different rerolls. It's like certain rerolls are 'deleted' when going back. GPT is nearly unusable at this stage, I don't want to keep having to start a new session or edit a previous prompt just to temporarily avoid this problem.

yea, its a symptom
but if you let it finish, then reload, regenerate the prompt and edit the last 2,. it should show back up

I am also finding that on some of my older (whether just a week ago or months) sessions are stuck refreshing itself. Well not 'refreshing' but keeps sending me back to the last generated response when I try to press on any of the arrow buttons.

Still having experiencing the bug. And my conversation stuck on generating, the stop button is unresponsive on all devices. When are they gonna fix the bugs? It is unusable at all at this stage and I am still paying.😢

Yeah I don't think it matters which device you use, the issue persists. I did find it usually fixes itself randomly for a short period. So I don't believe there's no temporary methods of fixtures besides not using ChatGPT (or custom GPT) for several minutes/hours.

This is what the bug is. If they're doing tweaks and hotfixes can't see why they're keeping the service up and inconveniencing their customers. I had to delete and redo some chats because of this

The only time I can regenerate OK is on the app, but the app doesn't let you see your previous responses like on the website version which is really annoying

Just throwing my name in that hat. It's been happening to me for a week or two.
I've got chats that are more than 30 days old, and its fine.
I've got chats that are really long, lots of replies, and large blocks of text, still fine.
But I can have a chat I started yesterday, and made like 8 images with ChatGPT and DallE, and it will break and no matter of checking tomorrow or refreshing ever fixes it. All the past regens also vanish because the back-and-forth buttons are gone.

This is more than annoying, because I can't get to those things anymore. When the button breaks, whatever the hell I was working on is apparently lost.

And some of those things, are finite resources (# of gens per day / month).
