Hello people, lately I keep getting this error when I ask a question to chatgpt "A network error occurred. Please check your connection and try again. If this issue persists please contact us through our help center at help.openai.com.". I tried everything, from turning off the vpn, changing the browser, sending short questions, all the same error.
Please help I've been using chatgpt for a year and a half and never had this problem before. This happens on chatgpt4, sometimes it also happens on chatgpt3, but not like on chatgpt4. I would like to go back to 3.5, but I can't because there is no option. Thanks.✅

Hi @eternal yoke. I'm kapa.ai, your friendly support bot. I will try to answer your question by searching through the knowledge base.

I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing issues with ChatGPT. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the problem:

  1. Check your network settings: Make sure your network connection is stable. If you're using a VPN or Web Protect, try disabling them. If the issue persists, try connecting to a different network [source (https://help.openai.com/en/articles/7996703-chatgpt-error-messages)].

  2. Clear your browser's cache and cookies: Sometimes, browser data can cause issues with web services. Clearing your cache and cookies might help resolve the issue.

  3. Try using an incognito window or a different browser: Browser extensions, especially those for security, can sometimes cause problems. Using an incognito window or a different browser can help determine if this is the case [source (https://help.openai.com/en/articles/7996670-chatgpt-says-something-went-wrong)].

  4. Check if the issue is with your machine or the whole network: Try accessing ChatGPT from a different device connected to the same network. If the issue persists across devices, it might be a network problem [source (https://help.openai.com/en/articles/9247338-network-recommendations-for-chatgpt-errors-on-web-and-apps#h_2e3eadd409)].

  5. Switch to a cellular network: If you're using a company network or WiFi, try switching to a cellular network, such as a hotspot on your smartphone. If the issue goes away, it might be a problem with your company network or WiFi [source (https://help.openai.com/en/articles/9247338-network-recommendations-for-chatgpt-errors-on-web-and-apps#h_2e3eadd409)].

  1. Check OpenAI's status page: Sometimes, the issue might be on OpenAI's end. Check their status page (https://status.openai.com/) to see if they're currently experiencing any issues [source (https://help.openai.com/en/articles/7996670-chatgpt-says-something-went-wrong)].

If none of these steps resolve the issue, please reach out to OpenAI support for further help. You can contact them through their help center (https://help.openai.com/) [source (https://help.openai.com/en/articles/9047779-why-is-my-chatgpt-taking-so-long-to-respond)].

As for your request to switch back to ChatGPT 3.5, I'm afraid I don't have any information on how to do that based on the provided sources. It might be best to ask OpenAI support about this as well.

Note: you can ask me a follow up question by @ mentioning me again :speech_balloon:
