Hi, whenever I try uploading an image, GPT-4o just straight up tells me that it doesnt have ability to view images? Why does it do that? And while explaining it that it have ability to view images I always hit the limit.. Its been like that for a while now, I upload images of my error I get in terminal which GPT-4o doesn't views and while convincing it, I always hit the limit, preventing me from sending another message..

Hi @manic gull. I'm kapa.ai, your friendly support bot. I will try to answer your question by searching through the knowledge base.

It seems like you're encountering a couple of different issues with GPT-4o.

Firstly, regarding the image viewing issue, GPT-4o might not be able to process images in certain scenarios. For instance, one user reported an error when trying to include an image URL in a system message, as GPT-4o only allows image URLs for messages with the role 'user' (source (https://community.openai.com/t/745769)). Another user encountered an error when trying to use a fine-tuned model based on gpt-4o-mini, with the system reporting that the model does not support vision (source (https://community.openai.com/t/903716)).

As for the usage limit issue, it's possible that you're hitting a rate limit or usage limit set by OpenAI. One user reported a similar issue, where they received a message saying "You've hit your usage limit. Please try again later" when trying to use GPT-4o (source (https://community.openai.com/t/835144)).

If you're encountering persistent issues, it might be helpful to check the OpenAI Status Page for any ongoing issues (source (https://community.openai.com/t/835144)). You can also contact OpenAI's help center for further assistance (source (https://community.openai.com/t/747303)).

As a workaround, you might want to consider using the OpenAI Playground, which supports image uploads (source (https://community.openai.com/t/759355)). However, please note that this might incur additional costs.

#

Finally, it's worth noting that with the release of GPT-4 Turbo, OpenAI now supports image uploads in the Chat Completions API (source (https://help.openai.com/en/articles/7127995-how-can-i-use-gpt-4-with-images)). You might want to consider switching to GPT-4 Turbo if it's suitable for your use case.

@spring cove well the model is GPT-4o, not mini. And about ratelimit I mean free users get limit...

GPT-4o just straight up tells me that it doesnt have ability to view images...

And convincing it doesnt helps and just makes me hit limit of GPT-4o.. Resulting in me abandoning the chat

Anything I can do about it?

I understand your frustration. Let's address these issues one by one.

  1. Image Viewing Issue: GPT-4o does have advanced vision capabilities and should be able to understand images you share (source (https://help.openai.com/en/articles/7102672-how-can-i-access-gpt-4-gpt-4-turbo-gpt-4o-and-gpt-4o-mini#h_f6a24d9dd8)). However, there might be certain restrictions or conditions under which this feature works. If you're consistently facing this issue, it might be a good idea to reach out to OpenAI's support for a more specific solution.

  2. Rate Limit Issue: As a free tier user, you are subject to certain rate limits. When you hit your text rate limit for GPT-4o, you won't be able to use GPTs until your rate limit resets (source (https://help.openai.com/en/articles/8554407-gpts-faq#h_d55d1863d3)). This limit is shared between GPTs and ChatGPT, and also applies to certain tools like data analysis with ChatGPT, file uploads, and browsing with ChatGPT (source (https://help.openai.com/en/articles/9300383-using-gpts-on-our-free-tier-faq)).

To avoid hitting the rate limit, you might want to plan your usage accordingly. If you're frequently hitting the limit, you might want to consider upgrading to a higher tier (ChatGPT Plus, Team, or Enterprise) which offers higher rate limits (source (https://help.openai.com/en/articles/9275245-using-chatgpt-s-free-tier-faq)).

Remember, the rate limit is there to ensure fair usage for all users. If you're hitting the limit frequently, it might be a sign that you're ready to move to a higher tier.
