My guess (as a programmer) is that when you are in the middle of an answer and press Command-period to cancel the rest of it and type a new prompt, then do that a couple of more times in the conversation, the app has threads pending and then refuses to Quit or some such. Then after that, every time it is launched it refuses to Quit. Must be Force-Quit.

The indication that there was something afoot is that when typing the prompt, it got slower and slower each time, unresponsive when typing.

What kind of a joke is this OpenAI? The app violates the Apple "Human Interface Guidelines" by ignoring the command-Q using it to "close" the window if it exists, instead of Quitting. The only way to quit is through the menu in the app icon on the Dock, or using Command-Tab to reach the app and Command-Q after to quit it on-the-fly. WHY? Are you running something you're not telling us about, distributed with our machines or what? 0.o
