I recently encountered issues with generating content that included the name "Drake." While I understand the need to prevent misuse and protect against legal risks, this cautious approach negatively impacts individuals who share this common name but have no association with the public figure. Based on the rule that prevents the use of the word "Drake" is an association with a famous person, the word "Pink" should also be barred based on icopy righted trademark infringement (Victoria Secret) and association with the band Pink.

Issue:The name "Drake" was flagged in various contexts, preventing the generation of legitimate, non-commercial content.This restriction seems overly cautious and affects a significant number of individuals with this common name.

Suggestions:

  • Improved Contextual Analysis:Enhance the system’s ability to distinguish between different contexts to reduce unnecessary restrictions. For instance, recognizing when a common name is being used in a non-celebrity context.
  • User Feedback Mechanisms:Provide clearer, more specific feedback about why content is restricted and consider allowing an appeal or review process for restricted content.
  • Differentiating Common Names:Develop more sophisticated algorithms to differentiate between common names and their association with public figures, recognizing the legitimate use of common names.

If OpenAI starts flagging every short name associated with famous people/businesses/products as restricted for IP, soon it will be impossible to create a prompt. I understand why the restrictions exist, but there has to be some level of flexibility based on context.

Examples:

  • If I asked OpenAI or DALLE to make a story/image of drake the celebrity, yes that should be restricted. Got it, 100% this should be.
  • If I asked OpenAI or DALLE to make a story/image of drake a dragon? That should not be restricted.
  • If I ask to print the text "Drake" in an image it should not get restricted.
