#Question about deleted chats

Hi @silver raptor. I'm kapa.ai, your friendly support bot. I will try to answer your question by searching through the knowledge base.
No, once chats are deleted, they cannot be recovered. Deleted chats are hard deleted from OpenAI's systems within 30 days, unless they have previously been de-identified and disassociated from your account or if they have to be kept for security or legal reasons. If you want to remove a chat from being visible in your chat history but retain it in your account, you should use the archive function. Archived chats are retained just like your unarchived chats and can be found and managed in your ChatGPT Settings.

@sonic island what if i request to recover before timer of 30 days?
Let me check the knowledge base for you. One moment! :books:
Even if you request to recover deleted chats before the 30-day timer, it's not possible to recover them. Once a chat is deleted, it is irretrievable. This is a part of OpenAI's data retention policy to ensure user privacy and data security.
