I've been using ChatGPT with the memory feature enabled to help maintain continuity across my interactions. Recently, I experienced an issue where the memory feature erased my stored information without any intervention from me. The first instance occurred when the memory feature was initially released for all users, and the second instance happened today, 2024-05-28.

Steps to reproduce:

Was not able to reproduce. It simply erased itself.

Additional information:

Browser: Brave Browser/ChatGPT Mac app (on M2 15" MacBook Air), discovered erasure on Samsung S23 Ultra
OS: macOS (on MacBook Air), Android (on Samsung S23 Ultra)

I only realized mine was gone when I asked ChatGPT to make an image in my favorite art style which it keeps in its memory.

This just occurred for me too. This is a reoccurring issue for me and has occurred anywhere from 5 to 10 times since I gained access to the memory feature. I also have an open bug report on this issue.
I was using ChatGPT on my PC earlier today and now I am using iOS iOS is where I discovered the memories were missing. Based on past experience, the memories always sync well so if they are saved on one device, it syncs across all devices. So I expect if I opened up my PC again they would all be missing just like I am experiencing on iOS.

This has been happening to me as well, as I have tried to use ChatGPT 4o to set up and retain information about a solo rpg campaign, and it arbitrarily lost everything twice in the span of two days, the memory section simply empty, without me having cleared it myself or asked ChatGPT to do so. Occurring utilizing Edge Browser on desktop.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Spend hours discussing details of the campaign and how to approach it with ChatGPT 4o.
  2. Verify memory is being retained by starting new conversations to continue discussion, checking memory directly.
  3. Suddenly lose everything.

I just find the memory feature very unreliable. With the same prompt, sometimes it remembers information, sometimes it doesn't. And many times it says 'memory updated' and I can see the memory snippets generated, yet when i create new chats or just check the memory list, the generated snippet is nowhere to be found. This is very irritating, so I stopped using memory at all.
