The desktop app won't install or run. I get some error saying that it's incompatible with my system. This mac is only about 2.5 years old, it's updated to the best of my knowledge, and the hardware is maxed out.
Steps to reproduce:
download mac installer and drag to applications folder. double click on application to run
Expected result:
The app opens, I can login, and it works
Actual result:
I get some message about my mac being incompatible

System Requirements: macOS 14 and Apple Silicon (M1 or better)

Hello! Thank you for the quick reply! Yeah so that's kinda part of the bug report. I have intel silicon in my machine.
I believe I've heard that there is a Windows desktop version in the works, but either way, that won't work on an intel mac either. I don't know the exact market statistics, but I do know that there is a metric crap-ton of people with intel macs out there. Not only that, but they're still available for sale in places. I don't want us to be left out

I totally understand! As a Windows user, I'm anxious to use a desktop app someday too! I hope in the future they're able to support Intel Macs as well. Since Apple silicon is a system requirement of the current version of the app, this wouldn't be considered a bug report and would probably be best suited as a suggestion in #1070006151938314300 -- there's actually a similar post over there right now, you might consider adding your voice in support! #1243275993464967188 message

Alright, now Perplexity and Claude both have apps that run, out of the box, on intel Macs. It's just you guys who have the problem with this. I'm sorry, but this is a bug and it needs to be fixed

Bump! Open AI recently annoucned that it loves macs - to the point where there is now going to be some OS integration. Let's see that love in the form of fixing this bug and getting the desktop app running on intel macs
