Description: Last week, I utilized ChatGPT to store important information regarding tasks and deadlines. However, upon revisiting the platform, I noticed a significant issue. ChatGPT failed to retain any of the data I inputted into its memory. Despite providing various details and instructions, the system appears to have lost all stored information from the previous week.Steps to Reproduce:Engage with ChatGPT to input and store information.Wait for a period of time (e.g., one week).Attempt to retrieve the previously stored information by asking ChatGPT to recall specific details or tasks discussed.Expected Behavior: Upon revisiting ChatGPT, the system should retain previously stored information in its memory. Users should be able to access and retrieve stored data as needed, facilitating continuity in task management and communication.Actual Behavior: ChatGPT failed to maintain any stored information from the previous week. Despite previous interactions and input, the system did not recall or retain any data provided by the user.

Yea having the issue also

when it adds somehting to memory it will display a confiormation that it did that

#

you can also always just type "remember that" and the AI will do it

Interesting, are you using a plus account or teams account?

If you wouldn't mind keeping us up with your progress I would appreciate that. I run into this issue often and it's beyond frustrating.

well it´s kinda simple, asking it to export all the memories in JSON, so I can edit more precisely, I created a page in Notion where I save this JSON and edit it, adding more and more info about me, so I can just upload such arquive and have a backup of memory. Other option I´m trying is to save all the info about me in a PDF and then save as a memory in a customGPT. It just took me 1 or 2 hours to try both, it´s pretty complete and I will be testing them alongside regular chatgpt memory to see what happens, but it will be much better if Memory works properly and doesn´t have such terrible issues and limits.

I haven't used that feature yet, I've always relied on extensions for exporting conversations in JSON. I think I saw that roll out, doesn't work well? In my experience, importing JSON required an unreasonable amount of bullying to make it work correctly and even then it wasn't quite right. It's probably much different since then but then again I don't know and I haven't used tools like Notion. Is it worth it?

Pretty much the same thing but in my case it just refuses to analyze anything that it has in knowledge base and ignores instructions. File analysis is really bad, it works 1/3 of the time and I have really simple txt files

I’m having the same issue. Maybe 3 or 4 times all the memories were wiped clean and left with only 2-3 newer ones.

It continues happening, open AI should fix it as soon as possible

We landed a fix last night that hopefully resolves this issue. Please let us know if you're still seeing it.

Something weird happened. I just clicked on Clear ChatGPT's memory and instead old, previously wiped memories reappeared. Weird.

In another addition, it seems that ChatGPT does some consolidation of memory entries, grouping those that are related together. I had it record the dates I finished some video games, and when ChatGPT consolidated the entries into a larger one, it stripped all the dates and the comments about them it had previously recorded.

If we are to rely on ChatGPT's memory, it has... to... remember stuff... 🙂

Todays been hectic so I haven’t had a chance to add more and test yet today. When I’m out of work, I’m going to do a focused session on building more memories so that will be the true test.

Added a ton of new memories and the existing ones seem to still be there. They have been restructured a bit over time, integrating new information into existing memories, which I think is very useful as long as older, relevant data isn’t removed

Just checked again this morning and so far so good!

There's no wipes, but the loss of small details like dates still occurs. I'm not sure if that will get fixed. Even if I provide a clear instruction that dates, times and other details should never be discarded from memories, they still are. Maybe there's a way to better formulate such an instruction, but I'm starting to think that when ChatGPT decides to consolidate memories, it has its own set of instructions that operate independently from our own.

Also, I added back all my previously saved memories. Probably around 80 at this point, and it saved them in some form. But after I added the one in this capture, some previous one got erased.
