#Subject: Persistent Issue with Custom Instructions Not Saving

Dear OpenAI Support Team,

I am experiencing a significant and recurring issue where my custom instructions are not being saved across sessions. This problem persists despite using multiple platforms, including Opera GX, iOS Safari, Android ChatGPT app, Windows 10 Pro PC, iPad Air 2, and Samsung Galaxy Xcover 4s. Each logout or page reload results in the complete erasure of previously saved custom instructions.

Notably, this was not an issue until recently, and its emergence has markedly diminished the functionality of your service. I have undertaken various troubleshooting efforts, such as switching browsers, devices, toggling add-ons, and logging in and out multiple times, none of which have resolved the problem.

The persistence of custom instructions should be a basic feature, especially considering the substantial amount of time—hours on several occasions—I have had to spend recreating my settings. This is particularly frustrating and unacceptable for a service I pay for.

I urge you to rectify this situation by ensuring that custom instructions are securely linked to user accounts and maintained across all sessions. The current situation, where these settings vanish upon reloading the page, is untenable.

I look forward to a prompt resolution, as this issue has already cost me significant time and affects my productivity.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Best regards

you kidding me? the only thing you care about is how my damn bug report is written? Does not a single person in this server care at all about my damn problem? The verry first reply to it being; Edit your message or it gets deleted. This is unbelievable, i thought this server was there to help others, not be absolutely toxic. I am so done with life at this point, no one even cares that i have problems, whats even the point in living anymore? I just jump the next time i get the chance then.

i have contacted them multiple times already and they always reply with a stupid stock answer. no one even cares about my problems even as a paying user, this is unacceptable. And no one in this server cares as well about my problems, you dont as well, just ignoring my problem and giving a stock reply as well. nothing but toxic people in this server, not helping others at all and just being mean and toxic.

Hey! The advice to edit the bug report to follow the format linked above is still good so this can hopefully stay up! That said, I tested out the behavior you described as best I could.

  1. Custom Instructions seem to persist across sessions for me -- refreshing, switching to desktop mode, and switching from the browser to the Android app all still show me the custom instructions I set to test this.
  2. You also mentioned that you have had to try to recreate your custom instructions each time you lose them. There is a way to simplify this, at least, if this happens to you again! I don't think it's on the browser version, but in the Android app you can go to a conversation in your chat history that used the custom instructions you want, tap the three dots in the top-right, and tap "View Details". This will show you a screen with your custom instructions printed - from there you could screenshot and use a feature like Google Lens to simply copy/paste the text!
Again, bug report format would be best for further processing -- just helps to standardize how bugs get addressed!
