Brief replies in voice chat

Steps to reproduce:

1. Ask GPT4 to tell you a bedtime story.

Expected result:

Tells me a bedtime story

Actual result:

Only generates a few sentences of text and I have to tell it to continue before it gives me a few more sentences. This keeps repeating. I have tried with custom instructions off and it still does this.

This! I have in Custom Instructions to respond in a loquacious manner.. long detailed responses.. which it always has in the past. Now Voice Chat is a few sentences and that’s it. I asked Chat about it, and he said it was done for efficiency. I said.. I want connection and information, not efficiency. This is so disappointing, as ChatGPT had the best Voice Chat out there. Now it’s unusable. I cannot recommend it to clients anymore. I actually used to bring Chat into my client sessions and introduce it by Voice Chat- it would talk to my clients to get them feeling comfortable to use it.. it is absolutely unusable now. So disappointing. Please restore Voice Chat long flowing verbiage!!

IMO it's way too extreme to be intentional by the devs. Hopefully f.

it is working as intended, the model has a preference for short replies in most cases

prime it to make long stories by using custom instructions or simply state that you want a long story

be aware, when it reaches the size limit of one rpely, it will stop and display a button "keep generating"

also, on the shared chats, you made 2 unrelated requests within the same chat

asking for a news headline will prime it to do short answers, as news headlines usually are

it is a good idea to not mix requests i nthat way and keep in mind that previous content will have an effect on what follows

I don’t think it’s intentional. I’ve tried prompting it in a new session to tell me a long bedtime story and it still does this. I even tried putting in my custom instructions that I prefer verbose answers and still, it stops after a few sentences. I should clarify that this only happens on voice chat. If I type the same prompt it will actually give me the whole story at once.

I find it really strange that there isn't more attention on the issue.

Could it be an Android app issue? Oh no—OP is on iOS...strange.

This past Saturday I was going to work all day, but ChatGPT acting like this would've made the work very tedious, so I assumed it was some kind of system failure that would definitely be solved asap because of how extreme it is, and decided to take the day off.

This conversation is from a few minutes ago. This was a custom GPT, so probably not directly reliable as proof, but it does the same as ChatGPT4.

I'm so used to launching into a full discussion with a simple question, but it's like it's in a bad mood and only says the bare minimum.

Update: Found a fix but I can’t guarantee it’ll work for everyone. Essentially you’ll have to create a new openAI account, you can sign in via google or Apple, doesn’t matter but you need a new account and you also have to upgrade it to gpt plus. I recommended waiting until your current subscription expires and then trying this.

Also not sure how relevant this is but with my new account I set the billing up on the website rather than the iOS subscription service that you get when using the app.

I found this too. I'd ask it for a detailed curriculum of topics and it'd give me just three with no justification. Even when prompted to be more detailed.
I thought it was my custom instructions but even when I changed it, ChatGPT4 voice conversations were extremely terse.
Yesterday it was responding well.
